New Perspectives on Irish English 7 (NPIE-7): FIRST CALL FOR ABSTRACTS 

As you know, NPIE 7, organised by Dr. Nicola Bessell & team, will be held at University College Cork, Ireland from Wednesday June 8, 2022 to Friday June 10, 2022 in Western Gateway Building, G 15. Plan B will be to go online should travel be affected by changes in pandemic restrictions.  

NPIE 7 welcomes contributions on any and all aspects of varieties of English and Scots in the island of Ireland, and their diasporas. Research-based papers should be 20 minutes in length and will be followed by ten minutes of discussion. Please submit an abstract with references to Nicola Bessell (n.bessell@ucc.ie ) by 31 March 2022. Abstracts will be peer-reviewed. Notification of acceptance will be issued by 14 April 2022.  

Abstracts should be a Word document of no more than 300 words (excluding references).

There will be a conference fee of EUR 50.00. This will include tea/coffee and a wine reception held on Wednesday evening. Participants are asked to organize and fund their own travel and accommodation. Lunches will be available from campus and there are some (not many) cafes nearby. I will advise you of social options as things stabilize. At the moment pubs must close at 8 pm, but presumably this will change. UCC is a 20-30 minute walk from the city centre (see map link below). There are hotels in the city centre and on the Western Road, which links the city with the campus.

Cork Airport is 7 km south of the city and is served by city bus and taxi. https://www.corkairport.com/to-from-the-airport/book-a-coach-ticket  If you fly in to Dublin there is a coach service from Dublin airport to downtown Cork.
